Michael Overmyer Earns TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Engineer Certification

Overmyer, PE, has received his TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Engineering Certification and now holds the additional title of FS Eng (TÜV Rheinland, #8246/14, Machinery).

Michael is a Functional Safety Manager as well as Project Manager at Matrix Technologies. A Professional Engineer with more than 40 years of experience, Michael has worked in a wide range of manufacturing industries including Food, Beverage, Steel, and Glass, delivering engineering services in Process, Material Handling Systems and Machinery Safety.

Michael manages a team of engineers that perform all functions of the machine safety life cycle including: Risk Assessments, Safety Design, Implementation, and Validation. Michael earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Toledo and has been an expert witness in safety related cases. “Our customers are realizing there is a need for more focused safety programs and we want to be able to support this need,” said Tim Lemoine, Senior Manager of the Power, Instrumentation and Controls department at Matrix Technologies. “Matrix strives to be a single-source supplier of services for our customers, so this was a natural extension for our company capabilities,” said Lemoine.

The TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program is the only worldwide extended vocational training program in the area of Functional Safety where knowledge and competencies are approved of by a third neutral party and where certificates are issued. TÜV Rheinland institutionalized this training program in 2004 together with national and international companies and experts of the Functional Safety business. Today, there are more than 6,500 engineers worldwide who have participated in the various training topics and have become a “Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland)”. Michael is one of only a few hundred engineers in the United States who have achieved this certification.
