Wastewater Pretreatment Project Automation

Wastewater Pretreatment Project Automation

Customer: Food Customer

Project Type: Electrical and controls design for a new wastewater pretreatment facility.

Project Scope: Matrix Technologies developed the electrical and controls automation for a new Wastewater Pretreatment Plant at the customer site in Texas.

This extensive project consisted of designing and constructing a wastewater pretreatment plant replacement to remove grit, peelings and fats, and oils and grease from the production facility’s process effluent for application, prior to final disposal of wastewater spray irrigation to a 900-acre overland flow land application site.

Matrix developed a detailed design drawing package for the panel fabrication, efficient migration, and installation of the new equipment. The package included power distribution schematics, panel drawings, termination diagrams, I/O drawings, three-line diagrams, network diagrams, and installation scope of work.

The system utilized a ControlLogix PLC and two HMI stations. Prior to shipping and installing the system Matrix staged the control system at our facilities complete with PLC, operator interface and simulated I/O to mimic the equipment used in the actual process The system was tested, fine-tuned, and approved by customer engineers and operators.

Matrix Engineer provided onsite I/O checkout and commissioning support, as well as post installation production support.

Engineering Challenges: We worked through a third-party construction firm and not directly for the end customer.  This added a layer of communication, but we expertly worked through the details of the operation to make the project a success.
