Project Type: Electrical design and software development.

Project Scope: Matrix Technologies provided the electrical controls design and implementation for the system. Our scope also included detailed process design for an industrial cooker, control panel design for the system, and control system design and implementation for all of Line 2.

Recipe Management and Batch Execution control was accomplished via a Factory Talk Batch system. HMIs were developed using Rockwell Factory Talk View SE and PlantPAx device graphics and faceplates. Screens were designed and configured to allow for full Line 2 Batch, recipe and system control from any field HMI.

Microsoft SQL Server and Factory Talk Historian SE were used to capture process, quality, CIP and batch data. Web pages were designed to allow Kettle Creations personnel to quickly recall batch and quality data for desired dates. Factory Talk Processbook pages allow for on-line access of all required reporting functions.

Engineering Challenges: The existing line was used as the basis for design of the expansion, but the original line was implemented by another vendor, and had several operational issues Matrix needed to correct prior to implementing the expansion.

Products and Technologies Used: Rockwell Automation ControlLogix PLCs and FTBatch, FTView, and FTHistorian software.  PlantPAx modules.

Project Outcome: The new line was executed flawlessly and operational issues with the original line were corrected as part of this project.
