Cheese Manufacturing System
Customer: Food customer in Dairy Industry
Project Type: Power, Electrical, Instrumentation and control system design and implementation for new process and packaging systems in a cheese manufacturing facility.
Project Scope: Matrix Technologies designed and integrated the electrical systems and controls for the new cheese manufacturing process and packaging line. Matrix was responsible for the integration between OEM manufacturers of the equipment and the ancillary support and utilities system equipment. All PLC programming and information system development was provided.
Matrix generated all new screens for the support equipment and imported OEM screens across multiple HMI’s in order to provide an overall “view” of the new processing system. New HMI standards for equipment colors and naming conventions were developed and implemented. Alarm management now allows operators the ability to view active alarms and scroll through the alarm history.
Tracking and tracing capability was built into the software systems and a new user interface that connects the plant’s SAP system to the control system was developed as part of the project.
Matrix performed integrated testing of the updated Control System software to verify operation of the new functionality. MTI also conducted a pre shipment test for the client to demonstrate that the system worked according to the Functional Specification prior to installation at the site.
Engineering Challenges: Integration of the new systems with the existing plant systems required careful design practices, as the existing systems were aging and not well documented.
Products and Technologies Used: Plant standards include Rockwell Automation PLCs and Wonderware HMI.
Project Outcome:The production system started up on time with immediate quality production. The new user interface to the scheduling and tracking systems eliminate dual entries by the operators, saving time and reducing errors.
