Batch Retort System Design
Customer: Food Customer
Project Type: Multi-Discipline engineering design and construction management
Project Scope: Matrix Technologies provided engineering services to create an Automated Batch Retort (ABR) cook room at manufacturing facility of one of the largest retail private label food products manufacturers.
Matrix was responsible for process design, including material flow diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications for the retort cooling system. Matrix also developed equipment layout and piping plans for contractor bid and construction packages.
Matrix designed foundations for the nine retorts, shuttle rail, unloading lifting device, sump structure, cooling tower, storage tank foundations, and all necessary support structure. Matrix also programmed PLCs for the retort cooling tower system and conveyors.
Matrix also included an HVAC system in the ABR room, and developed programming and configuration of PLC, HMI, and VFDs to create exceptional user control and communication between devices.
Products and Technologies Used: Matrix provided 3D design in Bentley AutoPlant, and the control system was based on Rockwell Automation hardware and software.
Project Outcome: The finished system is used as a showcase system by our customer, where they bring their customers to show their level of sophistication and quality in their operations.
